Egly scores three goals to lead U-16 past Colorado Rapids

The Chicago Fire Academy teams earned a split in Thursday's initial matches in Central Conference Frontier Division play.

Opening up against the Colorado Rapids in Commerce City, Colorado, the U-16 won 3-1 while the U-18 team dropped a 4-2 match.

Henrik Egly scored all three of the goals for the U-16 team while Zak Allen collected the victory in the net.

Keaton Albert, Peter Beasley, David Caban, Drew Conner and Eduardo Cuatle also earned starts for the U-16 squad.

Other U-16 starters against the Rapids (2-4-1) were Luis Medina, Chidozie Nwagbara, Victor Pineda and Anthony Torres.

In the second game of the evening, Zachary Bolden scored two goals to lead the Rapids (2-4-1) to the victory.

The Fire Academy received one goal from starter Bryan Ciesiulka and another score from reserve Jesse Ortiz.

Also earning starts for the U-18 team on Thursday were Kyler Albert, Keegan Balle, Art Garza and Marco Gutierrez.

Brian Lunar, Oliver Mayer, Billy McGuinness, Tom Serratore, Harry Shipp and Trevor Wheeler were other starters.

Both squads are now 1-1 in the 2010 part of their schedule following the results of Thursday's play and action from last Sunday's play in cold and snowy conditions DeKalb.

In Sunday's matches against FC Dallas, which were moved from Argo High School to Northern Illinois University, the U-18 claimed a 2-0 victory while the U-16 suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Manny Guzman and Ciesiulka both scored goals while Charlie Lyon posted the shutout in the net for the U-18 team.

Other starters for the U-18 team against FC Dallas were Mitch Albrecht, Patrick Doody, Scott Lakin, Chris Prince, Lunar, McGuinness, Shipp and Wheeler.

Earning starts for the U-16 squad in its opener on Sunday were Elliot Borge, Johnny Contreras, Sam Euler, Henok Russell and Joel Salmeron.

Additional U-16 starters against FC Dallas were Beasley, Caban, Conner, Cuatle, Medina and Pineda.

The Academy teams play Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre on Saturday and Real Colorado on Sunday to complete their western trip.

Both teams will be in action again locally next Sunday morning when they meet the Chicago Magic in Frankfort.
